Day 5 The last day of DOE will feature a trip to the Woods Hole Oceangraphic Institute(WHOI) on Buzzards Bay. WHOI is famous for things like finding the Titanic and discovering undersea sulphuric vents. You will be guided on a tour of the facility. You will discover the close relationship between MIT ocean engineering and WHOI as you meet MIT graduate students working at WHOI as part of the MIT/WHOI joint program. Following lunch we will set up on the docks at WHOI where you will deploy your Sea Perch, equipped with a tiny video camera, and explore the ocean floor, just like scientists do with their full size ROVs. After our field operation we will return to MIT for our final DOE party in which we will discuss our adventures, view the video images returned by our vehicles, and, importantly, get feedback from you on our program.
