P. Thomas Diamant graduated from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland in 1965 with a B.Sc. in Naval Architecture. After working in design at Yarrow Shipyard in Glasgow and Canadian Vickers Shipyard in Montreal, Tom received a Master's degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from MIT in 1969. While at MIT, Tom participated in hydrodynamics analysis for the US Navy Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) program and in the design of the launch facility of the Ingalls yard in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
After leaving MIT, Tom worked at a number of companies in the marine field, including Litton Industries' Advanced Marine Technology Division, where he became the manager of the Naval Architecture Department during the design phases of the newly-won DD-963 and LHA classes of US naval ships.
Tom joined John J. McMullen Associates, Inc. (JJMA) in 1973 to establish the Naval Division of the company. He is currently the President and CEO of the firm, which over the past 25 years has become the premier naval architecture and marine engineering company in the United States. JJMA is heavily involved in the commercial and naval markets, both in the US and internationally. The company offers engineering and design services covering concept through detail design and construction supervision of marine programs. Tom has published a number of technical papers in the area of structural integrity of ships. He participated as a lecturer in various symposia in the US and overseas and was one of the lecturers in naval ship design at MIT's Professional Summer Program. Tom and his wife Yael live in Potomac, Maryland. They have two daughters, Sharon and Michelle, both of whom are students, one in business school and the other in law school.
