Abstract:

The International Maritime Organization has been encouraging ship builders to adopt net-zero emissions through alternative fuel technologies, as part of its 2030 strategy. Aside from ammonia, nuclear systems have been proposed as a potential solution to reducing such emissions. However, there exists very little in regulations for designing such ships for safety. This seminar provides an introduction about nuclear propulsion and key hazards to consider when designing for such systems.
